Taking Supplements found not to Prevent Prostate Cancer

Over the last several years, there have been some interesting observations that suggest the possibility that individuals who have a higher than average intake of selenium and vitamin E, may have less problems with cancer of the prostate. Now a study has been reported to answer this important question!

Bellingham and Whatcom County are one of more than 400 study locations throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada for the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT). This is a ground breaking research study now underway to determine if taking supplements of Selenium and/or Vitamin E can prevent the development of prostate cancer.

SELECT is sponsored by the U.S. National Cancer Institute, and more than 32,000 men took part in the study, which was ended in 2008, after no relationship was noted.
