Dr. Foster spent his boyhood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He majored in physics at Iowa State University and graduated with honors in 1970. Just prior to his graduation in 1970, Dr. Foster was drafted by the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1972. Following his service, Dr. Foster was compelled to devote his life to healthcare. He earned his M.D. from the University of Iowa in 1976 and completed his Family Practice Residency at the Family Practice Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1979. He earned Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine in 1979. Upon completion of his residency Dr. Foster opened his office in Bellingham in July of 1979 and became a member of the Whatcom County Medical Society. Dr. Foster and his wife, Kathy, have been married for more than thirty years. They have two grown children. When he is not working, Dr. Foster has a lot of hobbies including: photography, woodworking, kayaking, hiking, and metal working. His special interests in healthcare include promotion of wellness, dermatology, and pediatrics. Dr.  Foster supervises and directs our bone density testing done at our Medical Testing Center. Dr. Foster is certified by The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), and provides interpretation of DXA scans and VFA (vertebral fracture analysis) studies.
