John R. Hiemstra, DO

I received my degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and did my family practice residency at Iowa Lutheran Family Practice in Des Moines, Iowa. I am Board Certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners.  As a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO), I am licensed to perform surgery and prescribe medication. Like an MD, an osteopath completes four years of medical school and can choose to practice in any specialty of medicine. I chose family medicine. Osteopaths receive an additional 300-500 hours in the study of hands-on manual medicine and the body’s musculoskeletal system.

I am residency trained to provide the full scope of care to all members of the family. My emphasis is on preventive care and health screening.

My wife, Dee, and I have been married since August 2003 and are blessed with three children. When not at the clinic, I enjoy time with my family and working on outdoor gardening projects.
