Larry attended St. Louis University Medical School and graduated in 1987. Prior to medical school he worked as a Physician Assistant in Montana. He also went to Idaho State University obtaining a Masters degree in microbiology and received his bachelors degree at Whitman College. In 1990 he graduated from Idaho Family Practice residency program and joined Lynden Family Medicine.
His hobbies include woodworking, classical guitar, running, hiking and tennis. He is involved in a local church and has gone on two medical missionary trips, with a seven month stay in Albania in 1996 as the most recent. He and his wife Sid have two sons, Stephen and Christopher.
