Dr. Herdman was born in Portland Oregon. His education includes undergraduate school at Pacific Lutheran University and Medical School at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He completed Family Practice Residency at Tacoma Family Medicine which is affiliated with the University of Washington. Dr Herdman practiced for two years in Okanogan County in North Central Washington where he was Chief of Staff at North Valley Hospital. He spent 3 months working in a small rural hospital in Northern India and he has done medical relief work in Honduras.
Dr Herdman and his wife Liz moved to Whatcom County in 1989 to open a private solo medical practice which she managed. They helped create Squalicum Family Medicine in 1991 and Family Care Network in 1999. Dr Herdman is chair of the Contracting Committee for Family Care Network. Dr Herdman is an avid cyclist, runner, skier, reader and fly fisher. He and Liz have three children. As a family they enjoy skiing, backpacking, bicycle camping, and travel. They also enjoy attending their children’s soccer tournaments. Dr Herdman’s particular areas of interest include Obstetrics with Operative Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Adult Preventive Medicine, Procedural Medicine, and developing technology for medical applications in Family Medicine. Dr Herdman very much enjoys his job and considers it a privilege. He and his family feel quite fortunate to live and work in beautiful Whatcom County.
