I immigrated to the United States from Europe with my family at age five. After graduating from Cornell University, I received my medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine. My wife, Dr. Bertha Safford, and I completed our family medicine residency at the Maine-Dartmouth Family Practice Residency in Augusta, Maine.
In 1979 we moved to Ferndale, Washington to establish our family practice with Dr. Gary Snyder. In 1999 we joined with other local family physicians to create Family Care Network. I enjoy practicing family medicine in a small community where I can care for multiple generations of the same family. I contributed to the community by serving as a member of the Ferndale School Board for more than 20 years.
When not practicing medicine, I enjoy the outdoors. Vacations are spent with my family backpacking or skiing in the North Cascades and traveling back to my roots in Europe.
