Mary J. Swanson, MD

I was raised in Omaha, Neb. I moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend Seattle University, where I earned a degree in philosophy. I attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed my family medicine residency at Swedish Family Medicine in Seattle. I am trained in full spectrum medicine including obstetrics, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, adult medicine and geriatrics. During my last year of residency, I held the position of chief resident. I am board certified in family medicine.

A family physician is the only kind of physician I ever wanted to be. Family medicine allows me to provide each patient with a medical home – a place where they are known throughout their lifetime and where health can be achieved. I define health not merely as an absence of illness, but as defined by the World Health Organization, a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.” I believe in caring for an individual in his or her totality, with attention to their family, their community and their environment. Family medicine allows me to be the kind of physician I believe in.

I love living in the Pacific Northwest and I thoroughly enjoy the beauty of the area. My husband Kurt and I are usually quite busy chasing our three active children. When able, we enjoy outdoor activities of all kinds. I especially enjoy running.
