Insurance – Medicare

Family Care Network (FCN) accepts several types of Medicare insurance, such as original Medicare, Medicare supplement plans, and select Medicare Advantage plans.

For 2026*, we accept Medicare Advantage plans from:

  • Kaiser Permanente
  • Molina – D-SNP only
  • Wellcare 

*Exception: Family Care Network will have a temporary contract in place with United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plans, from November 1 through December 31, 2026. This is to support continuity of care for patients included in the transition of the Bellingham Optum clinic to FCN.

For 2027, we will accept Medicare Advantage plans from:

  • Fenyx Health MSA – Group plan only
  • Kaiser Permanente – Group plan only
  • Molina – D-SNP only
  • Wellcare – D-SNP only

“Group plan” means eligibility to enroll is limited, such as an employer-sponsored retirement plan. Group plans are not available on the individual market.

Please note: FCN does not accept non-contracted Medicare Advantage plans that serve as primary coverage, including non-contracted Medicare Advantage plans offered through an employer retirement benefit. This includes Medicare Advantage plans from Aetna, Anthem, BC/BS, Cigna, Humana, Regence, and UHC, and any other non-contracted Medicare Advantage plans.

Medicare Supplement Plans:

Medicare supplement (Medigap) plans are secondary to Medicare and do not require a contract to be accepted. FCN accepts all Medicare supplement plans.

Which Medicare Advantage plans does Family Care Network accept?

For 2026, Family Care Network is contracted with Kaiser Permanente, Molina (D-SNP only), and Wellcare. We accept all of the plans available in our service area from each of these carriers.

How do I know which Medicare plan is right for me?

Choosing Medicare insurance can be complicated. The right plan for one person may not be the best plan for another. We encourage patients to thoroughly research the options and benefits that are available before making a decision. You can get help through Medicare.gov, the Washington SHIBA program, or your local insurance agent. We also recommend the free services of The Baldwin Group, an independent insurance agency resource that specializes in Medicare.

When is Medicare open enrollment?

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is Oct. 15 – Dec. 7 for coverage beginning Jan. 1.

Which Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans does FCN accept?

FCN accepts all Medicare supplement (Medigap) plans. This is because Medicare supplement plans are secondary to Medicare and do not require a contract to be accepted.

Which Wellcare Medicare Advantage plans do you accept?

In 2026, Family Care Network is contacted with all Wellcare plans that are available in our area.

For 2027, Wellcare will only offer a D-SNP plan in our area.

Do you take United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plans?

Family Care Network will have a temporary contract in place with United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plans, from November 1 through December 31, 2026. This is to support continuity of care for patients included in the transition of the Bellingham Optum clinic to FCN.

We will not be contracted with United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plans in 2027.

I was on a Medicare Advantage plan that will no longer be offered in my area. What are my options?

When a plan exits a service area, you will be notified by mail. You will need to choose a plan that is still available in your area and complete a new enrollment. If you do nothing, some plans may automatically roll over into a new plan.

I need help with Medicare Insurance. Who can I talk to?

How do I get an appointment with The Baldwin Group?

You can call The Baldwin Group at (866) 733-5111 or submit an interest form on their website. Please be aware that The Baldwin Group works with a large number of clients, particularly during open enrollment (Oct. 7-Dec. 15). New clients must first sign a Medicare-required form that authorizes them to contact you. After a required waiting period, The Baldwin Group may ask you to provide additional information before they schedule an appointment, so they can adequately prepare to meet with you.
