Kaeley E. Kaplan, MD
For most of my life, I’ve been fortunate to call the Pacific Northwest home. I grew up in Portland, Ore., but left briefly for my undergraduate training at Colorado College. I loved the mountains but missed the green and soon found my way back to Portland to attend medical school at Oregon Health & Science University. My passion for primary care brought me north to Seattle for a residency in family medicine at Swedish First Hill Hospital.
Being a family medicine physician is uniquely rewarding. Only in family medicine can I take care of individuals and families across the lifespan. I love that that each patient has a story that has shaped their aspirations and influenced their health. These stories are immensely valuable. As a family medicine physician I personalize health care around these stories to support the individual needs of each patient. That’s the beauty of family medicine! We prevent illness when we can and treat disease when it is necessary. I partner with my patients each step of the way.
I was drawn to Bellingham after competing in Ski to Sea years ago. My husband and I have been on this journey together since our days in Colorado, and he is thrilled to be a member of the Western Washington University faculty as a professor of Behavioral Neuroscience. We’re grateful to call Bellingham home and raise our family in such a vibrant community.
In my free time I enjoy cooking, reading, hiking, running (slowly, often while pushing a stroller) and skiing. Our young daughter keeps us busy and entertained. She loves the outdoors so we’re all enjoying exploring new trails together.
