Melana Schimke, MD

I went to medical school at the University of Washington and completed my family medicine residency training at the University of Minnesota.  I chose to practice family medicine early on in school because I appreciated all of the specialty rotations and wanted to continue each one.  Since then, the joy has been to integrate each area of medicine into the care of a whole patient.

My patients range from newborn babies to their grandparents and I especially enjoy taking care of multiple generations within a family- true family practice style!  My special areas of interest include adolescents and mental health care.

My husband is an internal medicine doctor here in Bellingham and we have a daughter attending medical school, carrying on the family tradition.  Our family likes to run, ski, hike, and play music together.  I still remind my kids to “eat what grows from the ground first” and “whatever you do repeatedly, you get better at.”
