Family Care Network to expand list of accepted insurance plans

Sep 15, 2026 | News

Beginning November 1, Family Care Network (FCN) will accept patients on United Healthcare (UHC) commercial insurance plans.*

Our website will be updated in early October to show which FCN clinicians will be open to new UHC patients (starting November 1) and how to establish care.

For patients who were established with an FCN clinician when our previous UHC contract ended in 2024 and are interested in re-establishing care, please call the clinic where you were seen for assistance. Existing Optum Bellingham patients on UHC commercial plans can continue to be seen when the Optum clinic transitions to FCN this fall.

* Special information for United Healthcare Medicare Advantage plans:

Family Care Network will have a temporary contract in place with UHC Medicare Advantage plans, from November 1 through December 31, 2026. This is to support continuity of care for patients included in the transition of the Bellingham Optum clinic to FCN.

It is important to be aware that FCN will not be contracted with UHC Medicare Advantage plans in 2027. FCN patients on a UHC Medicare Advantage plan in 2026 who would like to remain with FCN should review their options carefully during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7) and select a plan accepted by FCN for 2027. The Medicare insurance page on our website will be updated in early October with the Medicare plans we will accept in 2027.

Family Care Network and United Healthcare

Family Care Network ended their previous contract with United Healthcare in 2024. This was part of a broader decision at the time to reduce our overall number of contracting relationships.

Since then, the healthcare landscape has changed, and we believe it is important that we remain open to reassessing our options when appropriate.

This is what led to our discussions with UHC on how we can renew our partnership and develop a strong working relationship for the future. We are optimistic that we have a good plan to move forward, with a shared goal to provide high-quality care to our patients.
