Edward W. Bloom, MD

I grew up in the small Southeast Alaskan town of Ketchikan. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle and then continued south to complete medical school and residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore. While in residency, I met my wife (Dr. Jessica Bloom) and with our marriage also acquired an Air Force commitment. We spent four years in the U.S. Air Force as staff family physicians stationed in San Antonio, Texas. I was deployed for a portion of this time to Saudi Arabia during Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. After completing our military obligation, we came to Bellingham and have been here since 2005.

I feel fortunate to live in such an amazing part of the world and to practice in such a dynamic medical community. My practice includes outpatient care, procedures, some inpatient hospital care, and delivering babies. Providing OB care is particularly rewarding, and I love to watch all these children grow up. We started our own family just prior to starting practice in Bellingham (one born in Texas and two here in Bellingham) and our own children are growing up alongside those in my practice. We all continue our parenting joys and struggles together.

I am privileged to care for patients from age zero to 96 with all ranges of issues and illnesses. My goal as a family physician is to be there for my patients on their worst day, their best day, and at the beginning and end of life. This is not always possible but I strive for this whenever I can.

I have varied medical interests including sports medicine, diabetes, and child health. I do several office procedures, including casting and splinting, joint injections, IUD insertions and removals, endometrial biopsies, several types of skin surgery and mole removal, circumcision, and vasectomy.

My wife and I have three children in grade school who keep us occupied with a myriad of activities and adventures. I also have become a distance runner, road biker, and a beginning guitar player.
