Suzanne Fiala, MD

I was raised on a small alfalfa farm and grew up roaming the fields, woods and mountains of northern Idaho. My deeper roots are in Eastern Europe. I come from an immigrant Czech/Austrian family, and that rich heritage is an integral part of who I am.

I earned my undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology at Western Washington University in Bellingham. I never planned on becoming a doctor, but serendipity led me to medicine. I earned my medical degree at University of Washington and completed my family medicine residency there as well, where I served as chief resident. Much of my career has been spent working in the greater Seattle area with underserved patient populations. I’ve also enjoyed the opportunity to teach family medicine residents as an associate faculty member.

I love being a doctor. It’s an incredible privilege to be allowed into people’s lives and share in their life journey. My practice style is based on the scientific method of my training, paired with the knowledge that mind, body and spirit are all equally important for true health. I believe a good doctor/patient relationship is a partnership, grounded in mutual respect and open communication. My interests are broad: pediatric and adult medicine, women’s health, aging and end of life care, diverse populations, and particularly mental health. I also enjoy the technical skills of office surgical procedures.

I believe passionately in social and health equity and respect for all people. I’m also an animal rights advocate and a rescuer of dogs and other creatures. My family is my greatest joy. I have six beautiful children, as well as three grandchildren and numerous four-footed “kids”. When not working or with family I may be writing, creating art, making music, or doing almost anything outdoors.
